Half term update
We hope you have had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend. This is a brief update to inform you of a few matters.
Salamander and Google Classroom
You will receive, or may have already received, an invite which says “Philip Morant School Salamander invited you as a guardian in google classroom.”
We have now set up functionality on google classroom for parents to receive a choice of daily or weekly assignment summaries sent by email. (You can change these preferences later if you find that you prefer more or less frequent updates.) Once signed-up you will receive a summary email detailing for all subjects any missed assignments and any that are due in the near future.
Parents are not able to access google classrooms in this way, this is only being used for parents to see the work being set and completed by their child by receiving an email update. We do hope you will find this very useful.
You can find a guide here: Google classroom parent summaries
Changes to gates
The investment in improving the fabric of the school continues with a refurbishment of the art department starting in a few weeks time, the front gates being replaced over the summer and ongoing works this term on the roofing.
The scaffolding for the new section of the roof is being erected this week. As a consequence it is necessary to make a change to the entrance gates for year 9.
From Monday 7th June, year 9 will enter the school through the year 11 gate on the footpath between the two ends of Norman Way. Please can you let your child know if they are in year 9 as they will not have been informed about this in school. We will have staff on the green on Monday morning to guide them to the right gate.
Year 11 students are still with us until Friday 11th June and will continue to use this gate as well.
The weather forecast is for temperatures to remain high. From Monday 7th June all students in years 7 to 10 will be changing for PE. The only requirement for PE kit is the short sleeved PE top, black shorts, green PE socks and trainers.
Please also ensure your child has plenty of water with them for the day. Bottled drinks can be purchased without a meal at lunchtimes.
End of year exams
We have had a few queries about year 7, 8 and 9 end of year exams. These year groups will continue to be assessed throughout the year with assessments taking place in their classrooms in accordance with the schemes of work, rather than have formal end of year exams this year.
We wish you an enjoyable remainder of the week.
